Samsung’s 12.2-inch tablet could go into production by the end of 2013, according to a new report published by DigiTimes. The report specifically talks about the tablet’s screen, saying that Samsung has adopted a film-based capacitive touch solution provided by China-based Shenzhen O-film Tech, and that the company hopes its global brand recognition and marketing resources will prompt other manufacturers to follow suit with similar large-screen tablets.
Whether that will actually happen is a debate for another time, as market trends have shown that most people prefer smaller tablets, usually 7 to 8-inches, though a 12.2-inch Galaxy Note with a stylus could be a boon for those focused on productivity rather than entertainment on their tablets (not that a 12.2-inch screen would be bad for watching videos and browsing, but the large form factor would cause a lot of issues with handling).
The specs of the Galaxy Note 12.2 were earlier revealed to include a 2560×1600 display, Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, 8-megapixel rear camera, and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean; a launch should take place in the first quarter next year, though that’s something that isn’t confirmed as of now.
